Srinagar, June 03: The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh directed the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) to inform it regarding the action taken for the renewal of leases in Pahalgam.
The court directed the PDA and District Commissioner Anantnag to take appropriate steps immediately to submit a necessary report with regard to the renewal of all leases in accordance with law to the competent authority and to obtain appropriate orders in that regard within a period of three months from today.
In this connection, the court directed the CEO, PDA to inform it by filing an affidavit indicating the action taken in the matter.
A division bench of Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi passed the directions after it was stated before it that the PDA had taken up the matter for renewal of leases with the government in its 8th Pahalgam Development Authority Meeting held on May, 22, 2017.
The court was informed that it was decided in the meeting that the Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag shall submit the matter to the government with his recommendation for the approval of the government.
The bench pointed out, "Ever since the above meeting, we have not been informed as to what report, if any, has been submitted by the Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag."
The court noted that it is evident that the applications for renewal of leases have not been considered on merits so far by the competent authority.
