Srinagar, July 22: The inhabitants of Yadipora village in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district Friday expressed their resentment against the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department for leaving macadamization work of a road midway in the area.
Locals said macadamization work of 1-kilometer road stretch from TCP Highway to Chanderhama road was left midway by the authorities.
Raja Begum, sarpanch of the village told Rising Kashmir that it was the long-term pending demand of the locals that main road of the village should be macadamized but R&B officials left work midway.
“For past 10 years, villagers visited every office to get roads macadamized. It is very unfortunate that around 600 meters of the remaining road was left unattended,” she said.
Begum alleged that the concerned contractor worked hurriedly and did not bother to inform the local Sarpanch about the details of the project work.
“We will stage a protest against the department and block the Srinagar-Baramulla national highway at Hyderbeigh, if demands will not be fulfilled immediately,” she said.
Another local, Mohammad Athar Jameel said the condition of the remaining road stretch in the village is terrible. “Since 1947, it was the first time that village road was being macadamized. It is the fault of the concerned R&B department that left villagers to suffer more,” he said.
"There are potholes everywhere and authorities have not carried any maintenance of it since decades as a result of which the roads have deteriorated badly,” Athar said.
When contacted, Chief Engineer R&B, Rafiq Ahmad, told Rising Kashmir that he will look into the matter.
He assured that the issue will be resolved on  priority basis.
“I will check from the concerned AEE Sopore and issue will be resolved on priority basis, so that people will not suffer anymore,” he said.
Executive Engineer, R&B Sopore, Himayun Kabir acknowledged that out of 1 kilometer of TCP Yadipora road stretch, the department has only macadamized  600 meters.
“I have visited the village personally and assured them that issue will be resolved immediately,” he said.
Kabir said for the rest 500 meters, they have sent a fresh proposal to CE office for approval.  “Now it is up to the higher authorities to sanction further macdamisation for the remaining stretch of the road,” he said.
