Pulwama teenager wins bronze in MMA championship

Pulwama: A teenager from the saffron town Pampore of South Kashmir's Pulwama district has won a bronze in the first open Delhi mixed martial arts (MMA) championship.
Tabin Muzafar Wagay, son of Muzafar Ahmad Wagay, a resident of Kadlabal locality of Pampore, has won a bronze medal in the first Delhi mixed martial arts national championship held at Dwarka in Delhi.
He was part of the Jammu and Kashmir team in the junior category and fought under 52 weight category.
"The competition was very tough," Tabin said, adding that it was his first mixed martial arts event.
"I gained a lot of experience and hope that I will do better in the future," he said, adding that he is happy with his performance keeping in view the tough level of the competition.
He credited his coach and parents for his win. He added that around 150 players from different states fought in the championship.
Tabin is a class 10th student at Delhi Modern Public School Pampore. He has been keenly following martial arts from an early age and has been trained by a local coach, Sajad Ahmad Bhat, at an academy in Pampore.
Tabin has been giving stunning performances at different events and has already won two gold medals at the district level and two at the National level.
He has also played federation cup, where he also won a bronze. Tabin will be playing has been Open International Thain Boxing Championship which is scheduled to be held in Sharjah, Dubai, from 12 to 14 August 2022.
" I will give my best to win gold in the international event," he said.
