Politicians, artists pay tributes to late Bhajan Sopori

Srinagar, June 20: Several politicians, musicians and artists of National and International fame paid glowing tributes to the lateSantoor maestro and music composer,PanditBhajanSopori.
 
Sopori passed away at a Gurugram hospital on 2nd of this month after prolonged illness. He was 73.
According to a statement issued here, a memorial prayer meet was organised at India International Centre, New Delhi to pay tributes to him, in which people from different walks of life participated.
 
Politicians Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Ghulam Nabi Azad and D.S. Rana while as musicians VidushiShannoKhurana, Pt. Vijay Shanker Mishra, Shameem Azad, MaliniAwasthi, Pt. Chetan Joshi, UstadWasifuddinDagar and others besides the family members of the world famous musician attended the prayer meet and paid tributes to the deceased.
Abdullah while paying tributes to Sopori termed him a “great musician as well as a human par excellence”.
“He (Sopori) had love for all, be it any religion, culture or individuals. He was a Saint, a Sufi, a Rishi,” Abdullah said.
Senior politician, Ghulam Nabi Azad, said that the late music maestro was “a living saint in true sense”.
“He had so much energy, love and care for one and all. He was someone who never believed in any one religion but in one identity of the God,” Azad added.
In his speech, AbhayRustumSopori said,said that the deceased Santoor maestro left behind a rich legacy of 300 years of the exclusive Santoorgharana of the country. “My father’s demise is not just a personal loss but it is a huge loss to the entire world,” said Abhay.
Regarded as the cultural bridge of Jammu & Kashmir and the rest of the country,  late PanditBhajanSopori was hailed as the ‘Saint of the Santoor’ and the ‘King of Strings’ by the speakers at the prayer meet.
 
Musiciansincluding Dr.ShannoKhurana, MaliniAwasthi and Pt. Chetan Joshi of National Cultural organisation SanskarBharati, writer Dr.Agnishekhar, and many others shared their thoughts on the occasion.
Later, as per the statement, “an amazing & soothing experience at the prayer meet was seen asDharam gurus of all four religions prayed for the peace of his soul.”
