Two engineering graduate friends have come up with an e-commerce platform for wedding revelries and celebrations. From booking makeup artists to renting a tent, 'Occasions' is a platform where one can find every wedding related necessity.
The “Occasions’ website by Owais Sheikh and Sayed Raza is the one-stop solution where customers can buy, book and rent wedding related services.
Co-founder of the website, Owais told Rising Kashmir that they felt the need to have such a platform where everything can be available under the one roof.
"During weddings or other occasions, there is a huge responsibility of arranging things and everyone goes through a lot of pressure. We thought of providing a solution and making the process of arrangements hassle-free” he said.
Through the website one can make purchases of cold drinks, wazwan dishes, fire-wood, decoration items etc. The book section in the website provides a list of makeup artists, cinematographers, salons which one can book online. A customer can also take items on rent like copperware, crockery, genset and other electrical appliances. One can also rent decoration items and tents.
Owais said for weddings, parties and professional events, their executive will visit the customer at their home and will take the list of arrangements.
“We will be managing everything on our own. When the wedding will be over, our executive will take everything back. We are making it more customer-oriented and convenient for them," he said.
He said during the current wedding season, they are not charging anything for the booking of the executive.
The products and services are provided at the discounted rates, he added. “The wazwan dishes are also delivered by the executives so that the customer doesn’t have to go out to purchase. There are also categories of food items listed in the website according to the occasion.
"Our startup has been functioning for one month and we have received a warm response from the people for big and small get-togethers," he said
Owais further said that there is further scope of making their startup better. “We usually have a tough time getting dates from traditional cooks, we will be listing cooks on our websites as well. Also, we are thinking of providing helpers who prepare tea or wash utensils at wedding events,” he added.
He said that currently, the products or services have been outsourced by others on the website. In the coming future, they are intended to make the purchases in bulk so that they can give more discounts to the customers and would maximize the involvement of retailers and wholesalers.
The duo is from Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre, National Institute of Technology, Srinagar.
“This startup can really help in making people’s lives easier. We are in our initial phase and can go long if we can have investors to support us,” the engineering-graduate turned entrepreneur friends said.
