Pelvic Congestion Syndrome is one of the causes of chronic pelvic pain in women. It often results in a dragging sensation in the pelvis which worsens with standing or sitting but improves with lying down.

PCS is basically caused by enlarged veins in and around the uterus and the ovaries resulting in pooling of blood and feeling of heaviness.

Most women with pelvic congestion syndrome are younger than age 45 and in their childbearing years. Pregnancy and hormones are thought to play a role in PCS

Diagnosis is usually confirmed by ultrasound or MRI.  The treatment consists of medicines. In severe cases angiography and embolisation (sealing) the ovarian vein may be needed. Some cases may even need surgery.

Talk to your doctor if you have these symptoms. Do not self medicate. Your doctor will confirm the diagnosis and help you choose the best treatment.
