One hour of rain waterlogs city roads

Srinagar, July 23: The hour-long rain in Srinagar on Saturday hammered normal life and people in the city were seen struggling as several roads in the city got submerged.
Reports said that areas including Lal Chowk, Residency Road, MA Road, Munawarabad, Khanyar, BohriKadal, Hari Singh High Street, ZainaKadal, Khayam, Polo View, Rajbagh, Radio Colony, Jawahar Nagar, Mehjoor Nagar, Natipora, Naik Bagh, Chanapora, Bemina, Khomeini Chowk, Batamaloo, Tengpora, Ali Jan Road and others were waterlogged due to incessant rains.
The people in the city complain that "water logging is a problem that occurs whenever it rains." An angry local said that the administration has neglected us and failed to address the drainage issue, causing these localities to waterlog. Residents of several areas of the city have reported that interior roads are in poor shape and have many potholes. They said they couldn't find them because of the water logging and they pose a threat to passengers.
Meanwhile, several low-lying areas, including HMT, Zainakote, Bemina, and other adjacent areas, are reportedly witnessing a "deluge-like situation" amid incessant rains.
In various city markets, most of the shops were shut due to inclement weather, and little pedestrian movement was seen on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the residents of Srinagar city expressed anger against Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) for failing to contain the situation, saying despite a premature weather advisory issued by MeT, "the tall claims of SMC have again been exposed."
Scores of netizens also uploaded photographs and videos of their respective areas, criticizing the tall claims of SMC and other allied departments.
People in Srinagar said as per the authorities, the Smart city project will be completed next year, on the year's hand the hour-long rains are turning the vital roads into a pool.
