Srinagar, Aug 29: The Army on Sunday said there is no need to worry about Taliban takeover in Afghanistan and the security situation in Kashmir region is under control.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of sports event at Sheri-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium General Officer Commanding (GOC) 15 Corps Srinagar, Lieutenant General DP Pandey said the situation is under control in Valley and there is no need to worry about Taliban takeover in Afghanistan.”
Replying to query about challenges to security establishments in Valley, the GOC said, “This is a playground and I don’t want to comment about the outsiders but remember that situation is under control and there is no need to worry about it.”
He appealed to youth in his key speech to focus on sports activities and hoped that Kashmir will produce gold medalists like Neeraj Chopra in the future.
“Today former Cricketer Yousuf Pathan is among us. Like us he also rose from a small village in Gujrat and got space in Indian Cricket Team with his hard work and dedication, he said.
“I am sure that youth will get inspiration from him and will become good citizens, sportsmen with good discipline like Pathan,” General Pandey said.
Earlier police had also said there is no visible threat of any external forces. “We are alert to thwart any action by the anti-national forces and the situation is under control in the Valley,” the senior police officer said.
“We appeal to local youth who have taken up arms to surrender. It is painful to see those losing lives during gunfights. Those who have taken this violent path should shun it and join the mainstream,” the officer said.
