Jammu, May 28: Provincial president National Conference (NC) Jammu, Rattan Lal Gupta, accused the J&K government of miserably failing to implement schemes meant for socio-economic upliftment of weaker sections of the society as no serious effort is being made to empower them in terms of employment and provision of incentives to set up income generating units.
According to a party president, while addressing provincial working-committee meeting of NC OBC Cell here at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu the provincial president said that the incumbent government has been “despondently unsuccessful” in protecting the rights of OBC community in Jammu and Kashmir. “It’s unfortunate that these people are still deprived of what they deserve in the form of reservation which is being enjoyed all over the country,” he said, adding that when other Central laws are being implemented in Jammu and Kashmir then why the central government is shying to implement Central OBC quota in reservation at par with rest of the States.
The senior NC leader asserted that the impetus generated during the successive National Conference governments in the erstwhile state is totally missing.
In such a scenario, it is incumbent upon the administration to take necessary steps for fulfilling the aspirations of the OBC people and undertaking development on a massive scale.
He lamented over the governance deficit of the past few years, saying the lust for power by divisive forces is mainly responsible for such a deplorable scenario.
Rattan Lal Gupta asserted that the National Conference has always remained committed to protect the rights of the OBC community in the past and shall continue to do the same in future too. The 2% reservation to OBC was given by the NC govt and further 2% reservation was sanctioned by the Omar Abdullah government but not implemented by the successive government BJP and PDP.
