Srinagar, May 21: Peoples’ Conference (PC) chairman Sajad Gani Lone Saturday said that his father was killed for saying what he believed in and those who killed him were “terrorists”.
Remembering his father on his 20th death anniversary, Sajad took to his Twitter account and said that those who killed his father will rot in hell including those “terrorists” who kill unarmed innocent civilians.
Lone in a series of tweets said, “Remembering my father Abdul Gani Lone. Every year as 21st May approaches I start trembling. Those painful moments/memories— of a family receiving the bullet ridden body of their loved one. Those moments of helplessness follow you all your life.”
“For my father and for all those who have laid down their lives in this conflict, all I pray for is peace. May no bullet ridden dead bodies be delivered to families. May this madness end. May sanity prevail," he said.
A commemorative meeting of the PC was held at the party headquarters in Srinagar in which tributes were paid to Abdul Gani Lone on his 20th martyrdom anniversary, a party statement said.
Besides PC leadership, hundreds of PC workers participated in the meeting.
Paying tributes to its founder Abdul Gani Lone, PC leaders said that the sacrifices rendered by him will become the torch bearer for the future generations of Kashmir who strive for the lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir, the statement said.
“We humbly salute the founder of our party, our leader Shaheed Abdul Gani Lone. He laid down his life for peace in his homeland. We are proud to be the followers of the great leader who rendered the ultimate sacrifice for his people,” added the statement.
The leaders noted that Abdul Gani Lone will be remembered for his political astuteness, acumen and farsighted approach vis-à-vis finding a lasting solution to the vexed issue like Kashmir.
“His assassination exemplifies the pain and agony of the people of Kashmir and how the nefarious miscreants are out there to tarnish the hopes of peace and stability in the region for their own vested interests. He will continue to inspire the generations to come,” the statement added.

Pol leaders pay tributes to Mirwaiz, Lone
Political parties Saturday paid tributes to Mirwaiz Moulvi Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone on their anniversaries. Both the leaders were killed in two different incidents on May 21. Miwaiz was killed in 1990 inside his Nigeen residence and Lone was assassinated at Eidgah in 2002, during the anniversary function of late Mirwaiz.
In a statement, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti lauded the role of Mirwaiz and Lone in the peaceful struggle for the resolution of the Kashmir issue.
“Both these leaders have played a critical role in the struggle for mitigation of the political, economic and social problems of the people of Jammu & Kashmir,” she said.
Former Cabinet Minister and Apni Party (AP) senior vice-president Ghulam Hassan Mir, in his tweet wrote that Late Abdul Ghani Lone had raised voice of dissent at a time when it was much difficult and Late Molvi Farooq’s contribution in the educational field is of great significance.
"Both heroes of ours in their own fields were silenced by violence and the best tribute to them is to stand up against the violence," the tweet read.
In a statement, chairman People's Democratic Front (PDF) and former Minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen, lauded their contribution in socio-political awakening of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said both the leaders have played a significant role in the transformation of the society adding that both the towering personalities were liked and followed by the general masses.
