Srinagar, Aug 05: Authorities on Friday said that the motive behind home stay facilities for tourists was to accommodate more and more tourists and to give tourists a different experience in Jammu and Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir tourism secretary Sarmad Hafeez told Rising Kashmir that the purpose of the homestays for tourists is that the people will come and experience Jammu and Kashmir in its true sense.
“It helps the people at the grass root level to participate directly and improve their economic conditions as well so that the benefit of the tourism goes to the grassroots,” he said.
Hafeez further said that for a homestay, the department has already issued the new home stay policy and guidelines wherein it has been made much easier to register for homestays.
He added, “We are also focused on experienced tourism. That means the people whosoever would come here would be able to experience the first-hand life of local people by means of home stay.”
The tourism secretary said that in this regard people have shown a lot of interest.
“Recently, we inaugurated a cluster of homestays in Manasbal and other areas as well and very soon we will be having many more home stays for which we have started some capacity-building programmes,” Hafeez said.
He said that the department has set a big target. “We are hoping that by the end of this month we will be able to register several home stays.”
