Srinagar, June 26: An 8-year-old boy was killed after being hit by a passenger vehicle in the Zachaldara area of north Kashmir's Handwara town on Sunday.
According to local residents, the 8-year-old boy was hit by a passenger vehicle (JK09 2591), leaving him critically injured. They said the injured minor was taken to a nearby hospital in an unconscious manner where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The
injured minor has been identified as Irfan Ahmad Shiekh son of Nazir Ahmad Shiekh, a resident of Zachaldara.
A police officer said a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and the accused driver has also been arrested. Further investigation in this case is going on.
In a separate incident, a 14-year-old boy was drowned in a pond in the BowanWatsar area of Zachaldara.
Local residents said the boy went to take a bath in the pond but could not return. The
other boys present their made hue and cry. They said soon after this incident, the locals, along with the Police Army and SDRF, jointly launched the rescue operations.
The drowned teenager has been identified as Altaf Ahmad Tanchi, son of Mohammad ShafiTanchi, resident of BowanWatsar.
However, they couldn't succeed in retrieving the drowned teenager.
A police officer confirming the incident told Rising Kashmir that efforts are on to retrieve the teenager's body.
