MeT predicts wet spell from today

Srinagar, Aug 14:  The Meteorological Department on Sunday said they were expecting light to moderate spell of rain from Monday onward and it will bring relief from hot and humid weather conditions in Kashmir.
Deputy Director Meteorological Department Srinagar, Mukhtar Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that they were expecting light to moderate rains from 15th to 16th August in Kashmir region.
“On Monday weather will remain mostly erratic and they were expecting scattered light rain till August 16th,” he said.
Mukhar said Kashmir is witnessing hot and humid conditions for the past several days and this wet spell will likely provide some relief to the people.
“Widespread rain with thunderstorm is likely to happen in Jammu province, while light to moderate rain likely at expected at scattered places in Kashmir province on Monday,” he said.
As per MeT data, Srinagar recorded 33.3 degrees Celsius on Sunday. While minimum temperature during the night was recorded at 19.8 degrees Celsius.
 Ski-resort Gulmarg in Baramulla district recorded 22.4 degrees Celsius maximum temperature while its minimum temperature was recorded at 12.0 degrees and was the coldest place in Kashmir. Health resort Pahalgam recorded 28.8°C, and Qazigund 31.2°C respectively.
Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded maximum temperatures of 31.1 C, while its minimum temperature was 17.0°C.
The maximum temperatures in Jammu city settled at 35.4 degrees Celsius, while the minimum of 26.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in the city.
As per the traffic advisory issued by the Traffic Department, subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMVs (Passenger) shall be allowed from both sides on the Jammu-Srinagar highway on Monday.
The advisory reads that only stranded vehicles in Udhampur jurisdiction shall be allowed towards Srinagar. TCU Udhampur shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the HMVs, it said.
