Hassan Sarkar who hails from central Kashmir’s Ichigam area of Budgam  is on a mission to promote Kashmiri cuisine in the national capital of Delhi with his mouth watering dishes, especially wazwan, that attract a beeline of customers to his restaurant.
The 62-year-old came to Delhi to look for better avenues of earning for his family. He initially started the business of selling Kashmir handicraft items for a few years. Later, the idea of opening a restaurant crossed his mind which turned out to be a good decision for him.
Talking to Rising Kashmir, Hassan said he is now doing good as his business is running successfully.
He said his main aim to open a restaurant was to serve the people with multi-course wazwan, which is considered as an art and a point of pride in Kashmiri culture and identity.
Hassan's restaurant has become a favourite place to enjoy delicious food for Kashmiris who are living in Delhi and nearby areas of the Union Territory.
“Wazwan is not just about food, it is about sharing culture here in Delhi. Our customers would always wonder how we cook such dishes.”
Hassan has been in Delhi for almost 40 years and now owns two restaurants both named as ‘Kashmiri Restaurant’.
Though the decision of switching to restaurant business proved beneficial to him, he said the year 2020 proved challenging for him when Coronavirus hit the country. During those tough times, Hassan provided a helping hand to many needy people.
Now as the infection cases have ebbed, he said, his business is witnessing pre-pandemic sales.
He also collaborates with Kareem , and other big names in the food business to reach maximum customers.
