Srinagar, Aug 20: From childhood Farzana Shabir was fascinated by artworks. As she grew up, she developed skills in painting. Today, the 20-year-old Farzana is a glass painter and loves to give shape to the moods and traits of women on glass.
Farzana was just 12-years-old when grabbed the brushes to paint. She was selected for an art exhibition at her school in her 8th grade.
"This exhibition was a stepping stone for my journey into painting. Initially, I would do the normal painting but after this event, I began painting on glass."
There was no mentor, no support to hone her skills, so Farzana turned to YouTube to bring in fineness in her art.
"I would practice all day after watching the tutorials simultaneously. It helped me a great deal and here I'm today."
It took her three years to master the art. She began to fetch orders of her art works in her 10th class.
"My first order was from my teacher. She loved what I was doing and wanted to give it to one of her cousins."
That is how people began to know Farzana. Her work began to sell through word of mouth and she began earning at a young age.
Farzana created her Instagram account by the name of acclimate_artist1 to get orders.
"In the last nine months, I received around 20 orders and rejected many of them due to health and other issues."
Now Farzana is more dedicated than ever. She is trying to upload whatever she creates and manages to get her orders through social media only.
The price for a glass painting starts from Rs 900 and can go above Rs 5000. "It depends upon the size of glass and painting."
Recently Farzana received a scholarship from the Institute of fine arts in Delhi. However her family is hesitant to send her since she is in the first year of her graduation only.
"It's a one year course in glass painting but my family says I should go for it again after I complete my graduation."
Farzana is hopeful to create a career out of her passion and believes in doing what one loves to do.
