Mayor city direct officials to ensure every facility to people ahead of Muharram

Srinagar, July 20: Mayor Srinagar impressed upon the departments on Wednesday to provide hassle-free services to the public ahead of Mohharam-ul Haram. Mayor also directed PDD to ensure that no low-lying LT wires should be hanging anywhere, and the procession routes shall be proactively inspected to ensure the complete safety of people participating in processions.
 
According to SMC officials, Mayor Srinagar Junaid Azim Mattu has chaired a detailed meeting with all officials to ensure every facility will be put in place. The meeting was also attended by the commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Athar Amir Khan.
 
On this occasion, the mayor issues several directives to all departments concerning water supply, street lights, traffic management, health services, fire and emergency services, PDD, and others.
 
The meeting that focused on the preparation and arrangement of the upcoming Moharam-ul-haram was also attended by Chairman Public Health and Sanitation Committee Arif Raja, Joint Commissioner Adm, Joint Commissioner Works, SMC, Joint Director Fire, and Emergency Services, Secretary SMC, Municipal Veterinary Officer, CMO Srinagar, ZMO Zadibal, ZMO Batamaloo, Xens from SMC, PDD, CDD, Drainage Circle, Xen MCD Srinagar, Xen ED II KPDCL, Xen PHE Jal Shakti, Xen City Roads, AEES and others.
 
The Mayor, regarding the uninterrupted supply of water on the days of Mohharam, especially on Ashura, passed directions to the concerned to press enough water tankers into service near Imambargah's, especially at Zadibal, Bemina, and Hassnabad, where large congregational gatherings are being held, and also stressed to provide water tanker services to Mohharam specific areas as and when required.
 
Directions were also passed to the electric wing of SMC to inspect the functionality of all street lights and go for restoration of defunct street lights and to ensure the installation of additional Mohharam-specific street lights in all the Shia-specific areas, the procession routes, and Imambarah's where processions and prayers will be held.
 
The officials from the Health department were directed that besides organizing medical camps outside the imambargah's at Bemina, Hassnabad, Zadibal, Zewan, Panderethan, and other Mohharam-specific places, the additional medical first aid facilities along with the availability of ambulances have to be put in place and these camps shall have enough staff with enough medical supplies at these locations so that these services can be availed as and when required.
 
 
The directions were also given to the Traffic department to prepare and work out a traffic plan both for the surroundings of the Imambargah and the procession route map so that several measures will be taken to tackle the parking issue on the day of  Ashura, especially on Alamgari Bazar and Hassnabad where large processions are being held.
