Martyrs sacrificed lives for democracy: NC Jammu

Jammu, July 13: National Conference (NC) Wednesday paid rich tributes to the martyrs of 1931, at Sher-e- Kashmir Bhavan, Jammu.
A statement from the party said that a function was held to observe the martyrs day in which prominent leaders and workers of National Conference workers participated.
While addressing the gathering the provincial president Jammu Rattan Lal Gupta said that the martyrs of 1931 sacrificed their lives for the cause of democracy and freedom of press and speech.
He asserted the movement at that time was not against any person or community, it was against the system which was prevalent in those days not in J&K only but in the whole of the country.
Gupta said that Jammu and Kashmir has a unique history and it has seen so many ups and down in the past. However, the National Conference leadership has remained the voice of the people of the Jammu and Kashmir and fought for the democratic rights of the people of the Jammu and Kashmir from its very inception. Two minutes silence was also observed for the souls of the martyrs.
