Jammu, Aug 23: Apni Party (AP) provincial president Jammu and former minister, Manjit Singh Tuesday appealed to the government to give 27% job reservation and political reservation in favour of the OBC people in Jammu and Kashmir being one of the most neglected sections of society.
Addressing a programme organised by the OBC State Coordinator MadanLalChalotra, Manjit Singh appreciated the contribution of the OBC people despite all odds and no support from the Govt with regard to the upgradation of their living standard.
On this occasion, Ajay Kumar and Joginder Pal Sunny were felicitated by the leaders at the Apni Party Office in Gandhi Nagar.
He said that the government should make the assessment of the economic, social and political status of the OBC people who have no political representation nor were they provided any kind of help from the authorities to upgrade their living standard.
“The OBC people are poor and living across J&K in the border belt. Large number of the young population among the OBC is unemployed and they must be provided their due rights by ensuring their all round development,” he said.
To achieve this motive, he said, the government should ensure implementation of 27 percent reservation in J&K at par with the reset of the country.
“The enhancement in reservation in J&K will provide a sigh of relief for the OBC people and they would be able to get their share in the Union Territory,” he added.
He also targeted BJP for ignoring the OBC people and making them political fodder.
“The OBC people were used as vote banks by BJP and did nothing for their upliftment,” he added while recalling how the National Conference, PDP and Congress Party during their rule also did nothing for their upliftment.
He said that the OBC people were cheated by all these traditional political parties and exploited them and gained power but ignored working for their upliftment.
He said, “BJP had claimed that Art 370 was a stumbling block in the development and giving rights of the people of marginalized class of section in J&K. Four years have passed to the scrapping of the special status yet the BJP has not fulfilled the genuine demands of the OBC people which show that they are not serious about the upliftment of these people.”
He, however, said that the Apni Party was towards the fulfillment of the genuine demands of the OBC people in J&K.
