The macadamization work of a road in a village of Damhal Hanji Pora area of Kulgam District was left half resulting in inconvenience to the locals.
The work on the road from HM Guri to Cheki Samad Rather in the DH Pora subdivision was taken up under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in 2010. While a major portion was constructed, some portions are still not been taken up for work.
The road was macadamized only upto 3 kilometres and the remaining 1.5 kilometres has been left unattended.
“For the development of the village, the road was constructed, but it could not serve us because the road is bumpy. It hasn’t been macadamized since 2010,” Zakir Hussain, a local, told Rising Kashmir.
Locals turned to the district authorities and managed to get Additional Development Commissioner Kulgam's attention after the work under PMGSY was stopped for unknown reasons
“The road was again taken up by Rural Development Department under MG National Rural Employment Guarantee Act in the financial year 2021-22, they utilised funds and the road remained as it was,” he said.
The road goes through the orchards and many have given their land for construction of this road. “Though we received the amount for the land which came under the road, it needs to be commutable so that it benefits us” says a villager.
When contacted, Assistant  Commissioner Development (ACD) of Kulgam, Mohammad Imran Khan said, "Cheki Samad Rather road needs a lot of work, it was left halfway by the PMGSY. We've worked on it in the past, but because of its terrain area, it requires more work to be done."
“We will take it again and the work will be completed, the road will be made motorable by October,” he added.
