Light rain brings respite from heat wave in Kashmir

Srinagar, July 05: A moderate spell of rainfall on Tuesday brought down temperature several notches below the normal giving relief to people from the scorching heat wave in Kashmir.
The Meteorological Department (MeT) has predicted more rains during the next 24 hours in the region.
Deputy Director MeT, Mukhtar Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that most parts of the valley witnessed light to moderate rains during the past two days, bringing respite from the heat wave.
He said prevailing weather conditions will continue for next two days; however there is no forecast of any major rainfall in near future. However, widespread to moderate rain and thundershowers was likely in J&K during the next 24 hours”.
“There is already a lot of water in local streams, rivers etc. due to melting of glaciers etc. Addition of rain water in these streams often generate flash floods, mudslides etc. People are advised to remain cautious and avoid venturing near such places which are vulnerable in these areas,” Mukhtar said.
It started raining in Srinagar and other parts of Valley on Monday night till Tuesday morning. The summer capital recorded 6.7 mm of rains during the past two days, while Qazigund 7.6 mm, Pahalgam 6.6 mm, Banihal 14.7, and Gulmarg 7.2 mm.
Due to the rains, the temperature of Srinagar city came down and the mercury settled at 26.9 ? as the maximum temperature while its minimum temperature was 20.8 ?.
Ski-resort Gulmarg in Baramulla district recorded a maximum temperature of 18.8 ?, while the minimum temperature recorded was 13 ?.
Health resort Pahalgam recorded 23.1°C, and Qazigund 29.4°C.
Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded maximum temperatures of 26.6 C, and a minimum of 22.5°C.
Maximum temperature in Jammu city settled at 35.9 ? and minimum at 26.8 ?.
As per traffic advisory issued here, subject to fair weather and better road conditions Amarnath Yatra convoy /LMVs passenger/private cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar on Wednesday.
TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing this traffic.
Cut off timings for Shri Amar Nath Ji Yatries:
The convoy of Amarnath yatries from Bhagwati Nagar (Jammu) towards Baltal shall leave at 0400 hours, while as yatries convoy from Bhagwati Nagar (Jammu) towards Pahalgam should leave at 0500 hours.
The yatries convoy from Baltal towards Jammu shall depart at 0600 hours and the convoy from Nunwan (Pahalgam) towards Jammu shall leave at 0630 hours.
Cut off timings for LMVS/passenger/private cars:
The cut off time for light motor vehicles (LMVs), passenger, and private vehicles shall be released from Nagrota (Jammu) at 0730 hours to 1130 hours, while from Jakheni (Udhampur) the same vehicles shall be allowed to move from 0830 hours to 1230 hours. From Qazigund cut off timing shall be 1130 hours to 1400 hours.
The above traffic will use Jawahar Tunnel route upto 1400 hours.
TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar will inform all concerned about the traffic advisory and cut off timings.  No vehicle shall be allowed to move before and after cut off timings.
 
HMVs/Load Carriers
Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, HMVs shall be allowed from Jakhani (Udhampur) towards Srinagar after assessing the traffic situation on NH-44.  TCU Udhampur shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the HMVs.
Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari Road
Subject to fair weather and good road condition, vehicular movement on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road shall be allowed from both sides which include Srinagar towards Kargil and vice-versa.
LMVs will be released from Minamarg towards Srinagar from 0630 hours to 1300 hours. Those who want to travel upto Sonamarg shall be allowed upto 1700 hours and from Sonamarg towards Kargil 0500 hours to 1700 hours.
However, HMVs will be released from Minamarg towards Srinagar 0730 hours to 1130 hours and from Sonamarg towards Kargil 1300 hours to 1900 hours. No vehicle shall be allowed between 1900 hours and 0500 hours.
Mughal Road
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs shall be allowed from both sides and HMVs shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Poonch  on Mughal road.  
LMVs followed by HMVs will be released from Herpora (Shopian) towards Poonch at 0500 hours. up to 1700 hours. & LMVs will be released from Behramgalla (Buffliaz), Poonch towards Srinagar at 0700 hours upto 1400 hours. 
 
Movement of Yatries / Tourists in Kashmir
Yatries / tourists are advised to travel in the Kashmir Valley only between 0700 hours to 1800 hours and must plan their travel so as to reach their destination within this time period. In case the yatries / tourists fail to reach their destination within the stipulated time i. e. 1800 hours. The security forces shall make such yatries / tourists halt for the night at the nearest lodgment centre.
Advisory for people
People are advised to undertake journey on NHW-44 only after confirming status of the road from Traffic control units on contact number which include Jammu (0191-2459048, 9419147732), Srinagar (0194-2450022, 2485396, 18001807091), Ramban (9419993745), Udhampur (8491928625) PCR Kishtwar  (9906154100) for status of Sinthan Road.
