Land conversion a challenging issue: Dir Agriculture

Srinagar, Nov 16: Director Agriculture Kashmir Choudhary Mohammad Iqbal Tuesday described land conversion of agricultural land as one of the serious issues that the agriculture sector is confronted with.
He asked the concerned chief Agriculture officer to submit a comprehensive report on land conversions of agricultural land for non- agriculture use in their respective districts on priority basis.
Addressing the concerned officers by virtual mode, the Director reiterated the importance of reaching the benefits of these centrally sponsored schemes to each and every farmer at grass root level.
He asked the concerned officers to complete the assignment with respect to PM KISAN Nidhi and PM KISAN Maandhan Yojna effectively. He asked the concerned Officers to ensure that all the already fixed targets and bench marks with respect to different centrally sponsored schemes are achieved before the stipulated timeframe.
While renewing the department’s commitment to create opportunities for youth and to attract them towards the farming sector director agriculture asked the concerned chief agriculture officers to formulate a data base regarding the employment generation opportunities created by the implementation of different centrally sponsored schemes and flag-ship programs so far in the agriculture sector.
A detailed exchange of ideas took place between the participants on the affective and time bound implementation of different centrally sponsored schemes including Rashitra Krishi Vikas Yojna, National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture, National Mission of Agriculture Extension and Technology, National Food Security Mission, Soil Health Card Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Senchayee Yojana, PM-Kissan and other schemes.                                   
 The meeting was attended by Joint Director Agriculture Extension Sheikh Shahid Iqbal, Chief Agriculture officers of Kashmir division and Chief Technical Officer Sheikh Farhan.
Later on Director Agriculture inaugurated an awareness programme on cultivation & processing of High value aromatic crops in Jammu & Kashmir which was organized by Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Branch Srinagar.
Director Agriculture highlighted the importance of the coordinated approach between the Department of Agriculture and IIIM.
