Srinagar, Aug 17: Srinagar: Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh Wednesday said that they have identified the terrorists who were behind the Chotipora Shopian attack in which one civilian was killed and another was injured.
Addressing the reporters on the sidelines of the wreath laying ceremony in Srinagar, DGP Singh said they have been identified and will be given stringent punishment.
"We have identified the two suspects who had killed him (Sunil Kumar). Follow-up action is going and we are working on it,” he said.
DGP Singh said, "Celebrations, and positivity seen during 15 August could not be sustained by neighboring terror handlers. They only see Kashmir as a path to fulfill their own desires and try to disrupt peace. We have identified 2 involved in the murders. Accused will be nabbed soon,” he said.
According to police officials, two terrorists belonging to the banned Al-Badar organization came to the orchard in the morning and lined up everyone.
After identification, they segregated Sunil Kumar Bhat and his cousin Pitambar Kumar Bhat aka Pintu Kumar, and shot indiscriminately at them with their AK-47 rifles.
According to eyewitnesses and Pitambar Bhat's statement, while one terrorist was firing indiscriminately, the other was filming the horrific incident on his smartphone.
DGP Singh also paid tributes to the ITBP personnel, who lost their lives in the Pahalgam road accident yesterday, and said that those injured are getting specialized treatment and if need arises, the injured will be taken to Delhi hospital for further treatment.
