Shopian, June 30: Apni Party President, AltafBukhari Thursday said that people in Kashmir welcome Amaranth Yatra and are ready to secure it.
He was speaking to the media on the sidelines of a party function in South Kashmir's Shopian district on Thursday.
He said that on Wednesday they (political leaders) were invited by the LG Manoj Sinha to discuss the issues related to the annual pilgrimage.
He said that they were informed by the LG about arrangements made by the Government for the yatra.
"He also sought our suggestions," Bukhari said, adding that it was stated by them that all people in Kashmir welcome Amaranth Yatris.
"The yatra has been going on from past many centuries, it is part of our culture and should not be identified with a particular religion," he said, adding that it shouldn't be much hyped. He said that it should be a people friendly affair.
"Every individual is ready to secure Amaranth Yatris," he said. He also said that election is a right of Jammu and Kashmir. "The government is not doing any favour to us for holding them," he said. He also demanded that no school should be closed in Kashmir.
"If a school is on state land, the government should recover the cost of the land. Our educational institutes are our pride," he said.
