Kashmiri girl, Aqsa, clinches bronze medal at World Pencak Silat Championship in Malaysia

Srinagar, August 01: A Kashmiri girl, Aqsa Gulzar, has brought laurels to J&K by bagging a bronze medal in the World Pencak Silat Championship-2022 which was held in Malaysia.
 
In a tweet, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha lauded Aqsa for bringing laurels to J&K by winning the medal in the championship held in Malaysia.
 
“Spectacular performance by Aqsa Gulzar at the World Pencak Silat championship. Heartiest Congratulations to her and coach on clinching bronze medal . The nation is proud of her accomplishment. My best wishes to her for many more laurels in the future”, the LG tweeted.
 
 
Aqsa who hails from the Nowshera area in Srinagar city was part of the Indian contingent of the Pencak Silat team consisting of 42 members including 36 men and women players, coaches, and staff from across the country which included eight players and three coaches from Jammu and Kashmir.
 
 The national Pencak Silat contingent was flagged off by Lieutenant Governor Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha, on July 24 of this year from Raj Bhawan Srinagar.
 
“To win a bronze medal in the international arena is a big achievement for me as I have been working hard for this. Though the aim was to target the gold, some minor mistakes cost me that opportunity,” Aqsa told Rising Kashmir.
 
She added that she is hopeful that she will work harder next time and make the people of the country and J&K proud.
 
She has been playing Pencak Silat since 2018 and has won two gold medals in Tanding class open 2.
 
“I was playing in the junior category girls but from this year I started playing in the senior category,” she said.  
 
 
As per an official, "Team India" remained among the top ten at the World level by clinching seven bronze medals in the 19th World Championship Pencak Silat which concluded in Malaysia recently.
 
 
 
The players who bagged the medals for the country include Suraj Sharma from Delhi who secured bronze in solo creative male, Disha Reddy (Madhya Pradesh) secured bronze in solo creative female in Artistic category while in Tanding (fighting) category Rahul Saini ( Rajasthan) 
(Class C)-, Arti Kumari (Bihar- SSB) (Class G), Madhu Kumari (Himachal Pradesh- SSB) (class E), G. Shanti Laxmi (Puducherry) 
(Class H), Aqsa Gulzar from J&K (class open 2) secured one bronze medal each.
 
Earlier on July 26, the said championship was inaugurated by Governor of the Melika Province Data Mohammad Ali Rustum while in the closing ceremony the Prime minister of Malaysia Dato' Sri-Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob was the Chief Guest and who also gave away the awards to the winners.
 
Mohammed Iqbal and Irfan Aziz from Union Territory of J&K accompanied the national team as coaches and Mufti Hamid Yasin was the Team manager.
 
While congratulating the national team in general and Aqsa Gulzar from Kashmir in particular Secretary of Sports Council Nuzhat Gul said that she was very excited that the national Pencak Silat team has put on a good display and produced a great result in the event while maintaining rank among the top ten at the world arena.
 
 
Mohammad Iqbal, team coach expressed hope that team will do their best in the forthcoming Senior Asian Championship as well as World Beach Pencak Silat Championship 2022 to be  be held in Cebu- the Philippines later this year.
 
The team was cleared by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and sports Government of India and the national coaching camp which was held in Srinagar was jointly organized by the Jammu and Kashmir sports council as well as Indian Pencak Silat Federation.
