Srinagar, Oct 14: The Kashmir made willow bats will make debut in the upcoming ICC T2o World Cup, as players from Omen have decided to play with Kashmir willow bats in the tournament scheduled to be held in UAE and Oman on October 17, 2021.
This is going to be the first time that willow bats made from Kashmir are going to be used by players in such a mega international event.
Revealing to Rising Kashmir, a Sangam based Sports Company, GR8 Sports owner, Fawzul Kabir Dar 29, who inherited the company from his father late Abdul Kabir said that they have supplied bats to few Omani cricketers, who are going to be part of their country’s world cup squad.
“Omani players which include Bilal Khan and wicket keeper-batsman Naseem Khushi have agreed upon to use our bats,” he said, and added “They are already doing their practice session using these bats, and will also see them using our kits and cricket bats in T20 matches,” he said.
“My father established this company in 1974 and since then we have been supplying bats to various states, now we took initiative to take it to international level,” he said and added “This will happen first time that any Kashmiri brand cricket bat or kit will be used by cricketers at an international event,” he said.
He also said that he is hopeful that Kashmir brand willow bats shall be used by reputed players of cricket which will give these bats international recognition.
“Earlier we have been supplying only raw material of Kashmir willow to outside companies/states particularly Jalandhar based companies who would use their label and market them at international level,” he said, and adding that they are now serious about Kashmir based cricket bats (brand) and want to take it to international level.
He claims that Kashmir willow bats are as good as English willow owing to its rigid material and low moisture.
“Kashmiri willow trees are male variant whereas English willow trees are female variant, thus can meet the international cricket standard and are suitable for batting. These bats have the advantage of being rigid and not brittle, unlike English willow,” he said, adding that they have seasoned their cricket bats to maintain their weight from 8-12% of moisture.
Kashmir willows are famous for their quality across the world and have recently gained huge attention from the cricketers.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to be the seventh ICC Men’s T20 World Cup tournament and is hosted by United Arab Emirates and Oman.
The tournament shall start from October 17 and will conclude on November 14 2021. The West Indies are the defending champions of this title.
