J&K Curling Association holds 1ST ICE Curling National Championship in Gulmarg

Baramulla, Jan 12: Introduced for the first time in Kashmir, the four- day- long 1st national ice curling championship organized by J&K curling Association concluded on Wednesday in Gulmarg.
A total of 250 players including both boys and girls across 19 states from India participated in the event comprising three teams from each state.
This is first time that ice curling championship was held in the valley which started from January 8 and concluded on January 12.
Curling is a team sport, played on ice, where two teams take it in turns to slide stones made of granite towards a target known as House. It is an Olympic and Paralympic winter sport.
In the event the participants were given two day long training sessions starting from January 8 to January 10. The championship lasted for two days starting from January 11 and concluded on January 12.
President Ice curling Federation of India, Dr. Reshami Saluja was the chief guest on the occasion in the opening ceremony while Yogeshwar Dutt , International wrestler and Chief Executive Officer curling federation of India, Mohammad Arshad was the guest of honour.
The inaugural function was also beautified by locals with their presence.
Arshad said the main purpose behind organizing this game was to develop physical fitness and mental development.
Earlier, during the opening ceremony Dutt appreciated the efforts of C.F.I and J&K curling Association for introducing the game in India. C.F.I thanked JKTDC and GDA for their cooperation during the championship.
