J&K completes nearly 100% vaccination in all age groups: Officials

Srinagar, Jun 29: In a positive development, Jammu and Kashmir administration is near to complete the 100 percent vaccination of all age groups, officials said on Wednesday.
As part of the nationwide vaccination drive, the Government of India has been supporting the States and UTs by providing them with Covid Vaccines free of cost. However, India is close to administering 200 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses.
Dr Shahid, State Immunization Officer told Rising Kashmir that other than 12-14 age bracket, we have completed the inoculation of all the age groups.
"We are performing well and we will soon complete the 100 percent vaccination drive of the maximum population in the UT,” he said.
According to the officials, 468,800 precaution doses have been administered to beneficiaries aged above 60 years, HCW, FLW. Also, 42 precaution doses have been administered to beneficiaries aged 18-59 years.
Also, near about 8 lakh teenagers have been inoculated with covid-19 jabs till June 28.
Over 86% of children between 12–14-year age group have been administered with the first dose and 72% with the second dose of the vaccine in J&K till June 27.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir administration is now planning to start the vaccination drive for children in the 5-12 age group soon.
Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) granted emergency use authorisation to Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin for 6-12 years and Biological E’s Corbevax for 5-12 years.
While Corbevax was approved by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for administration in children aged 5-12 years, Covaxin was cleared for use in those aged 6-12 years.
According to the officials, the final decision about starting a vaccination drive of children aged under 12 years will depend on NTAGI.
Meanwhile, Director SKIMS, Soura, Professor Parvez Koul in a press statement advised people to exercise caution in the face of recent reports of an increased number of COVID cases from various parts of the country.
He said that the situation is not worrisome as the positivity rate so far is not that high and hence there is no need to panic but lowering guard and paying no heed to Covid guidelines can degenerate the situation.
