Srinagar, July 24: Saying that people of Jammu and Kashmir were facing tremendous difficulties for want of an elected civilian government, Chairman People's Democratic Front PDF and former Minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen Sunday urged the centre to hold assembly elections without further delay.
He said, in absence of a popular government, common people are unable to get their problems and grievances redressed adequately, Hakeem Yaseen maintained while speaking at one day the party workers convention here on Sunday.
He said centre should restore to the people their constitutional right to elect their assembly members to raise their issues in the legislature.
The convention was called to deliberate upon the prevailing socio-political position in Jammu and Kashmir with reference to the proposed assembly elections.
Maintaining that governor's rule can in no way be a substitute to an elected civilian government, Hakeem Yaseen said that holding of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir at the earliest would be in the overall interests of the country and democracy.
"This was imperative to bring peace and tranquillity in this strife torn part of the country which was also a sensitive border area," Hakeem Yaseen said, adding that winning hearts and minds of the people through reconciliation and people friendly policies was the only way forward in this direction.
He has urged the government to address the grievances of the aggrieved FAA aspirants.
