IED recovered on Srinagar-Baramulla highway, defused

Baramulla, Jun 11: An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted on Srinagar-Baramulla highway near Putkha area of Sopore subdivision was recovered and defused by the security forces and police on Saturday morning. 
A police official said that the security forces from 52 Rashtriya Rifles detected the explosive device on Srinagar-Baramulla highway near Putkha area, following which a bomb disposal squad (BDS) was summoned to the spot.
The police official said that the device was destroyed through a controlled mechanism by the bomb disposal squad. 
The recovery of the IED prompted the authorities to halt the vehicular movement as a precaution on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway. 
The incident left hundreds of vehicles stranded on the highway for around half an hour. However, police and security forces acted promptly and restored the vehicular movement on the highway. 
Police said that a case has been registered in this regard and further investigation initiated.
