Huge scope of hockey in JK: Dr Andrabi

Srinagar, Sep 30: A special event was organised by Hockey JK at Greenfield playground at Gandhi Nagar in Jammu Thursday evening.
 Teams selected for 11th Hockey India Junior and Senior Women Hockey championships to be held at Simdega and Jhansi respectively were felicitated. 
Chairperson Waqf Development Committee of Ministry of Minority Affairs, Dr Darakhshan Andrabi was the Chief Guest on the occasion.  Rajinder Singh Kuku General Secretary Hockey India,  Rajeev Sharma President Hockey JK & Dr. Taran Singh General Secretary Hockey JK were also present on the occasion. This was the first event of Hockey JK after the new management body took over recently.
Dr Darakhshan Andrabi praised Hockey JK for its visionary projects for boosting Hockey related activities in all parts of the Union Territory. Congratulating the newly elected management of Hockey JK, Dr Andrabi said that there is a huge scope of Hockey in J&K.
She said that the initiatives for boosting the talent and enhancing the needed infrastructure and other facilities for Hockey in J&K have been taken by the UT government & the Union government so that our boys and girls qualify beyond National level and represent the country at International sports platforms. “Recent performance of our national men’s & women’s Hockey teams at Japan Olympics has infused new life into the game throughout the country. In J&K we are creating requisite playing spaces with adequate facilities in every block for Hockey lovers,” said Dr Darakhshan.                        
Dr Andrabi announced that she will be donating the high quality Hockey kits, Graphite Hockey sticks, Shin guards, Complete Uniforms & multiple Ball-sets for the teams selected to represent J&K in 11th Hockey India Junior & Senior Women Hockey Championships. She also called upon youth to invest their talent in Hockey and make it the pride of the country again. She also appealed to the local private sector to support the game under the social responsibility scheme.
Anjali Thakur Treasure of Hockey JK, Ashok Singh Jamwal Div Sports Officer, SP Singh Manager Green Field, Satish Sharma Manager MA Stadium And officers and coaches of J&K Sports Council were also present during the event.
