Srinagar, July 04: After the Divisional commissioner Kashmir P K Pole last month inaugurated the fire-fighting facility in Nigeen Lake in Srinagar, senior functionaries at the Kashmir houseboat owners association have demanded the full operationalization of firefighting machinery at Dal Lake.
General Secretary Kashmir houseboat association Abdul Rasheed told Rising Kashmir that two firefighting boats have been allotted to Nigeen Lake while the augmentation of firefighting management at Dal Lake is yet to be upgraded.
“Six firefighting boats were allotted for Nigeen and Dal Lake, of which two were allotted to Nigeen Lake which is both operational, however, the remaining four firefighting boats are yet to be upgraded as only one boat is installed with a fire pump,” he said.
He said that the firefighting stations allotted for Dal Lake are located at Dal Lock gate, saying that the station should be at a central location in Dal Lake.
Deputy Director Fire and Emergency service Bashir Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that they have already operationalized the two firefighting boats at Nigeen Lake and have added two more firefighting boats for Dal Lake.
He added that in case there is any technical or any other issue, in already existing firefighting boats, the fire pumps will be installed in new firefighting boats.
Officials in the department said that they have also taken up the issue of allocating a centrally strategic location in Dal Lake to meet and act swiftly in case of any exigency.
“We have taken up the issue of allocating the firefighting space with Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Director Tourism and Deputy Commissioner Srinagar as we have also identified a patch of land inside the Dal Lake near Nehru Park where we can plan a firefighting station,” the official said.
According to the fire and emergency department, ten personnel from the F&ES are deployed at Dal Lake while eight personnel are deployed at Nigeen Lake.
