Baramulla, August 02: The department of education Tuesday attached the head of Government Middle School Chankhan in north Kashmir’s Sopore town to a nearby school after students alleged that the teaching and non-teaching staff were forcing them to do menial jobs at the school.
An official said that day after the students of this school protested alleging that they were being forced to clean the classrooms, fill drinking water from hand pumps and perform other menial jobs usually done by peons or sweepers of the school, the headmistress of GMS Chankhan has been attached to other school till further notice.
While talking to Rising Kashmir, Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Sopore, Abdul Salam Dar, said that a four member committee has been formed to inquire the issue and submit the report within a period of three days.
“A four member committee headed by the Headmistress of High School Choora Nighat Parveen has been assigned the job to do a fair inquiry into the case. The headmistress of GMS Chankhan has been attached to Amargarh middle school till further orders,” ZEO Sopore said.
On Monday, a group of GMS Chankhan Sopore students protested against the headmistress for allegedly forcing them to work at school. The protesting students alleged that the teachers ask them to do the menial jobs and the concerned staff does not extend any help to open the lunch boxes of kids or clean the classrooms.
“The helping staff use abusive words when we ask them to clean the classrooms or during lunch break. The headmistress never paid any attention to our problems and we were forced to stage a protest,” the protesting students added.
Zonal Education Officer Sopore said that the inquiring committee will look into it and submit their report in three days.
“Let there be a partial inquiry and if the headmistress, any teacher or school staffer is found guilty, necessary action according to the rules will be taken against the erring official,” he further added.
