Srinagar, July 20: The Valley-based doctors have suggested people to stay hydrated and avoid outside food in view of the growing bacterial and viral cases of infection.
Doctors said that in this season, adults as well as children mostly suffer from vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and typhoid due to viral and bacterial infections.
Doctors at Sheri Kashmir institute of Medical Science (SKIMS) Soura and SMHS hospital said that they are receiving cases of viral and bacterial infections in Out Patient Department (OPD) and other cases of infection mostly typhoid cases of adults In Patient Department (IPD).
They said that these infection cases are not related Covid-19 though the symptoms are almost the same.
Dr Saleem Khan, HoD Community Medicine at GMC, told Rising Kashmir that there has been a spike in infection cases this month and it is very common during summer months.
" People should take care of their hygiene, diet and stay hydrated. They should avoid stale food, eating at different eatery outlets. People should avoid refrigerating food multiple times. They can refrigerate the food once then warm it properly. Otherwise, there is a high chance of infection," he said.
He said that people should use filtered water for drinking purposes as water borne diseases are very common in these months.
Dr Farhana, a Physician at SKIMS,said that she has treated patients mainly adults with typhoid fevers.
" We receive a number of patients in the IPD (In Patient Department with leptospirosis (bacterial infection) gastroenteritis (digestive problem caused by bacteria) and other infections. It can be treated with antibiotics. Bacterial infections can also cause abdominal pain. I have treated patients of typhoid fever with symptoms of diarrhoea, abdominal pain," she said.
Dr Farhana said that people become dehydrated and have an electrolyte imbalance. “So, it is very important to take care of everything from hygiene to food, people should be careful,”she said.
