Srinagar, July 14: Jammu and Kashmir administration on Thursday accorded sanction to the creation of the Department of Hospital Administration in Government Medical Colleges of Srinagar and Jammu.
“Sanction is hereby accorded to the creation of the Department of Hospital Administration in Government Medical Colleges of Srinagar and Jammu in tune with the National Medical Commission (erstwhile Medical Council of India) and National Board of Examination (NBE) guidelines”, reads an order issued by Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, Principal Secretary to Government H&ME.
The move is aimed to pave for scientific management of healthcare institutions by qualified hospital administrators across Jammu and Kashmir.
Hailing the LG led administration’s decision, Dr Muhammad Salim Khan, Professor and HOD, Community Medicine, Government Medical College told Rising Kashmir told Rising Kashmir that Hospital Administration Department is a backbone of healthcare in hospitals. “The hierarchical system would be in place with defined roles and responsibilities. The hospital functioning would be in an organised way,” he said.
He said that the post graduate courses could start in future developing a cadre of hospital administrators who can work in other hospitals also.
“It's a great step taken by the government,” Dr Khan said.
