GDC Ukhralorganises Extension Lecture on ‘Female Infanticide: Causes and Preventions’

Ramban, July 02: NSS Unit of Government Degree College, Ukhralon Saturday organized an extension lecture on the theme “Female Infanticide: Causes and Preventions” under “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” campaign of Union Government to eradicate the heinous crime of female infanticide and the importance of Girl Education in the society.
The program started with the National Anthem and followed by a welcome address by Prof. Zakir Hussain Naik, NSS Program Officer. He highlighted that the purpose of organising this extension lecture was to promote gender equality, protection of girl child, encourage girl education and improve the child sex ratio.
The Principal of the College, Prof (Dr.) Ranvijay Singh was the Chief Guest on the occasion. In his address, he talked about the growing injustice and exploitation with the girl child. He stressed on the need of Girl Education so that they can raise their voice against exploitation that they face in day to day life. Dr.MussaratJabeen, Convener Women Development Cell, of GDC Surankote was resource person on the occasion.
In her lecture, she said that the female infanticide is a heinous crime caused by various social evils like poverty, illiteracy, child marriage, abortion, ignorance etc. “The need of the hour is to bring gender equality and justice by changing the narrow mindset of the people” she maintained. She further said that the government has come up with many initiatives and schemes to stamp out discrimination against the female:
“Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” is one of the initiatives of Govt. of India that ensures the security, safety and education of Girl Child” she informed. Dr.Mussarat also highlighted various preventive measures to enhance Women Empowerment and Girl Education and to end gender differences in the society.
A large number of students and faculty members participated in the program including Prof. Shafiq Ahmad Katoch, Co-ordinator IQAC of the College.
The Program was moderated by Prof. Suresh ChanderHoD Dogri, while the formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Iftikhar Hussain Lone HoDEngli The technical support was given by   Farooq Ahmed Katoch.
