Terrorists can’t deter our efforts to bring peace in valley: IGP

Srinagar, June 19: Two foreigners among four terrorists were killed in two separate gunfights in Kashmir on Sunday, police said.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Vijay Kumar told Rising Kashmir that four terrorists including two foreigners were killed in joint operations of security forces in Kupwara and Kulgam districts.
He said by targeting innocent civilians including women and kids, unarmed policemen and poor outside labourers, terrorists can’t deter our efforts to bring peace in valley.
“Our CT (counter-terror) operations will continue simultaneously in all three regions of Kashmir valley, especially against foreign terrorists,” IGP Kumar said.
A police spokesman said police along with Army have killed four terrorists so far including two Pakistani terrorists in two ongoing encounters in Kupwara and Kulgam districts.
He said in Kupwara, Police along with Army (28RR) launched a joint anti-terrorist operation on Sunday afternoon on the disclosure of an arrested terrorist Showkat Ahmad Sheikh in forests of Chandigam Lolab area of district.
The spokesman said during the search of a hideout, hiding terrorists started firing indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter.
“In the initial exchange of fire one terrorist was killed and the arrested terrorist leading search party also got trapped. In the ensuing encounter, so far two Pakistani terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT were killed. Heavy exchange of fire is still going on and operation is in progress,” he said.
Meanwhile in anti-terror operation, following specific input generated by police regarding presence of terrorists in DH Pora Kulgam, a joint cordon and search was launched by Police and Army (9RR) in the said area.
“As the joint search party approached the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon search party which was retaliated leading to an encounter. Later, CRPF also joined in the operation,” he said.
The spokesman said in ongoing encounter, two local terrorists were killed so far. They have been identified as Haris Sharief of Srinagar and Zakir Padder of Kulgam.
As per police records, the killed terrorist Haris Sharief was linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT while Zakir Padder was linked with JeM. Slain terrorists were categorised terrorists, he said.
“Both the killed terrorists were part of groups involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on Police/SFs and civilian killings,” the spokesman said.
