Srinagar, July 18: Following the intelligence inputs about the presence of launch pads and training camps, the security agencies are maintaining a close vigil along the Line of Control (LoC), a top army official said on Wednesday.
The official told Rising Kashmir that they have been advised to remain on high alert along the LoC following the recent drone incident in Jammu region last week.
“There are inputs from the other side that terrorist launch pads and training activities are going on, indicating the need to be alert across the border,’ he said adding strict measures are in place to counter the thwart the adversary’s designs.
The officer said they are always alert to foil any possible attempts by the enemy. “The cross-border smuggling of narcotics and weapons continues to be a focus,” he said.
The Army officer said that a ceasefire is on. “While Pakistan is indulging in suspicious activities, there is no slackness in alertness. We have a strong counter-infiltration grid to prevent any untoward incidents across the LoC and hinterland,” he said.
Regarding infiltration, he said it has come massively down this year as foreign terrorists were barred from entering the valley. “The onus entirely lies on the neighbouring country to build up the peace and tranquillity that both the countries have achieved so far,” the officer said.
“Apart from sending drones to Kashmir, the neighbouring country is smuggling narcotic drugs to trap youth in drug-related illegal activities. It is a big challenge and we have to fight it jointly,” the officer said.
He said apart from human resources, they are using high-tech surveillance along the LoC in north Kashmir to track the enemy, check infiltration, and other suspicious movements.
Last week, security forces foiled an infiltration bid along the line of control (LoC) in J Poonch district.
A defence ministry statement said, "During the midnight hours of 12/13 July 2022, there was an infiltration attempt along LoC in the Poonch sector (J&K) which was suitably foiled by our alert troops
On July 07, Army foiled the infiltration bid in Tangdhar sector and killed a terrorist. One soldier was also killed. Arms and ammunition was also recovered at the encounter site.
Earlier in February 2021, both India and Pakistan agreed to strictly observe the 2003 Ceasefire agreement along LoC and other sectors. The move has brought a peaceful atmosphere along the border areas of Valley and Jammu.
