Fasting increases levels of human growth hormone (HGH), an important protein hormone that plays a role in growth, metabolism, and muscle strength. Fasting, when done correctly, has been found to be more effective than calorie restriction at increasing fat loss while simultaneously preserving  muscle tissue. Fasting regularly for longer durations, leads to a metabolic switch and improved fat loss and maintenance. In the morning the body uses mainly carbohydrates as its energy source from the food eaten at sehri. As the day continues, the body shifts from burning carbs to burning the stored fat in the body. Ramadan fasting works well for reducing body fat. However, one must maintain a healthy diet during the nights, and ensure plenty of physical exercise. Regular fasting and better heart health might also be linked to the way the body metabolizes cholesterol and sugar. This can reduce your risk of gaining weight and developing diabetes, which are both risk factors for heart disease.
