Efforts on to make Gurez organic zone: VC SKUAST

Srinagar, June 4: Vice Chancellor, Sheri Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai on Saturday said that efforts are on to convert the Gurez valley into an organic zone. 
Briefing media here at Bandipora, VC SKUAST said that Gurez has a lot of potential in organic agriculture. In coordination with the district level officers they will try to convert this area into organic zone. 
He said that Gurez should be known for its organic production and they in an collaboration with the agriculture Department in making efforts to make this valley more beneficial for farmers. 
"Whatever the product is supplied to other parts of the country from Gurez should be organic which will benefit the farmers of the area in a long way," VC said.
He said that they are also trying to increase the production of potatoes in Gurez. 
"There are 250 kanals of land available in Gurez and we are trying to get that land from the government. If we succeed in getting the land we will use it for growing different crops especially cultivation of Potato seed," VC said.
He further said that the SKUAST is also trying to take the agriculture sector to the next level.
"How to take the agriculture to next level by using new technologies we are seriously working on that," he said.
