Srinagar, June 7: The doctors at Chest Disease (CD) hospital on Wednesday alleged that some doctors at the hospital were "mercilessly" beaten after a patient died by cardiac arrest.
A doctor who requested not be named told Rising Kashmir that a patient was admitted to the hospital. He said the patient was on an oxygen concentrator. However, the attendants of the patient took her to the bathroom without oxygen support, due to which her oxygen saturation went down and she died of cardiac arrest.
The doctors said the attendants didn't allow doctors to resuscitate the patients and instead made hue and cry and also beat some doctors mercilessly. Besides damaging some hospital property.
Later on, some DCC member, accompanied by security guards, entered into the hospital premises and made a hue and cry, adding the doctors present there were saved by attendants.
They also alleged, "Dr.Navid and Dr. Yousuf were also threatened by the attendants, adding the DDC member allegedly snatched the gun of his security guard and put the gun on chest of Dr. Zaid."
They said if God forbid he had mistakenly fired the doctor, he would have died.
The doctors of Chest Disease have also held a strike seeking strict punishment against the accused people.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, a senior doctor at the hospital said they won't call off their strike till the accused are arrested.
A female doctor has also alleged that she was beaten mercilessly by the attendants of the deceased lady.
She stated, "The attendants entered my room and started beating and dragging me by the hair, leaving me injured."
She continued, "They also assaulted a security guard who was later sent to Bone and Joint Hospital for treatment and has also sustained several fractures," the doctor stated.
He stated that only emergency services of this hospital will function and other wards, including IPD and OPD, will be shut until security is provided to doctors.
The doctors at this hospital said that before two months, they were COVID-19 warriors declared by the people, and now the same people are beating the doctors.
They said this is not the first-time doctors at this hospital have been beaten. They said in the last three months, this was the third attack on doctors.
Police has registered a case under FIR number 03/2022 under sections 332, 353 and 354 of IPC.
SSP Srinagar, Rakesh Balwal, told Rising Kashmir that an FIR has been registered against the alleged accused for their involvement in manhandling the doctors and creating a ruckus at the hospital.
Balwal said "family of the deceased lady has also approached police for the lodgement of an FIR against the doctors for medical negligence, which has not been registered yet."
The officer said, "So far, no one has been arrested in this connection."
