Div Com Kashmir inaugurates firefighting facility at Nageen Lake

Development part of overall up-gradation of city’s fire service infrastructure: CEO Smart City

Srinagar, June 18: The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir P K Pole on Saturday inaugurated the firefighting boats here at Nigeen Lake in Srinagar and said the firefighting facility has been procured underSmart City Project.
On the occasion, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir was joined by the Director Tourism Kashmir and Deputy Director Fire & Emergency Services during which the personnel of F&ES, demonstrated the firefighting power of the boats.
Speaking to the media, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir said that these firefighting boats are procured under Smart City Project which will help to fight any fire mishap in the lake.
“As houseboats are vulnerable to fire as the maximum of wood is used in its construction, so under Smart City project two firefighting boats have been procured for the fire protection of boats in the lake”, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir said.
Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation and CEO, Srinagar Smart City Athar Aamir Khan told Rising Kashmir that the boats were procured by Smart City and handed over to Fire Services Department for operations. 
“These boats are needed for prompt response in case of any fire incidents around the water bodies, especially houseboats and other habitations. This is a part of overall up-gradation of city’s fire service infrastructure for which these firefighting boats were augmented under Smart City project”, CEO Smart City Srinagar Athar Aamir said.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir on the occasion said that Dal and Nageen Lake are famous for their houseboats and every visitor coming to the valley always has a wish to spend a night in a houseboat.
Meanwhile, Kashmir Houseboat Owners Association (KHBOA) while reacting to the development said that it is a welcome step for which the KHBOA had been pursuing the much-needed demand with the administration.
General Secretary KHBOA Abdul Rashid, said that the demand for the stationing of firefighting facilities both at Dal and Nigeen was under process for a long time, stating that the administration had assured of allocating the facility.
“It was a long pending demand of KHBOA, and from time to time we have been pursuing its requirements with the administration. We welcome this development and we are equally thankful to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir for inaugurating the two firefighting boats at Nigeen Lake'', he said.
The event was hosted by the NTTA, whose chairman Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo, in the ceremony expressed his satisfaction and happiness at the inauguration of two firefighting boats.
