Ganderbal:- It has been a decade since the construction work on 50-bedded Public Health Centre Kullan in Ganderbal district of Central Kashmir was started but, due to the lack of funds, the work has not been completed so far.
According to the locals, the construction work on this health centre was started in the year 2011-12. The centre would have catered to the healthcare needs of locals from far-flung areas of Kullan,Rayil,Rezan,Gohipura, and Gagangeer areas.
They said that even contractors have not received their pending payments of the work that was done on the building.
“How much time is needed by the authorities to complete the work on this much-needed health facility. We are facing serious problems due to non-completion of this project. In winter, it becomes even more difficult to ferry the patients to other places,” they added.
The Health Centre is presently functioning from an old building which lacks all facilities that can be provided in a new PHC building. The hospital is located on Srinagar-Leh highway caters to a large populace including tourists.
“We are forced to go hospitals in Srinagar city to perform basic tests and other treatment. The delay in reaching the hospitals has proved fatal manya time,”said another local resident.
Cheif Medical Officer (CMO) Ganderbal Dr Afrooza said that the work of said hospital will soon be taken up by the R&B department.
She said that every effort is being made to improve the health system in Ganderbal so that the patients do not have to face problems.
