Srinagar, May 19: The trial court Srinagar granted four weeks’ time to J&K Sports Council (JKSC) for conducting elections of office bearers of Jammu & Kashmir Football Association (JKFA).
The court of 4th Additional District Judge, Srinagar directed the Sports Council through its Secretary, to take steps to constitute an Adhoc Committee which would provide necessary assistance to the Sports Council to facilitate conduct of elections.
The court passed the directions in an application moved by JKSC seeking extension in time for conducting elections of office bearers of JKFA.
The directions came after the counsel representing JKSC contended that elections couldn't be conducted on May, 08, 2022 due to non furnishing of the details of voter lists at District level and other documents.
He submitted that some time would be consumed in publicizing the voter list and inviting objections from all concerned and sought further time for doing the same.
The counsel further submitted that tenure of the present 10 office bearers has come to an end on May, 12, 2022 and they cease to hold any position as office bearers.
The court noted that there is no legal impediment in case adhoc committee is constituted till the elections are held.
The court recorded that in the face of the tenure of present office bearers having come to an end on May 12, 2022, therefore Sports Council would take steps to constitute an Adhoc Committee which would provide necessary assistance to Sports Council to facilitate conduct of elections
"Upon consideration of contention raised and arguments advanced, the application seeking extension of time is allowed by providing a four weeks extension to JKSC for conduct of elections which would commence from the date of passing of this order," the trial court said.
Earlier, a notification for conduct of elections was issued on May, 08, 2022 and Justice ( R ) M Muzaffar Jan was appointed as election commissioner.
