Civilian killed, Army man injured in Kulgam gunfight: Police

Srinagar, Aug 05: Police on Friday said that a civilian was killed and an Army man was injured during an encounter between security forces and terrorists in Redwani area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Manzoor Ahmad Lone son of Mohammad Abdullah Lone. He was a painter by profession and was injured during the initial exchange of firing.
A senior police officer told Rising Kashmir that during the initial exchange of firing with terrorists, Armyman and civilian were injured.
“Both were shifted to 92 base Army hospital in Srinagar but civilian succumbed to his injuries on way to the hospital. While the condition of Army man is said to be critical,” he said.
The officer said three terrorists were trapped inside the cordon.
“Both of them managed to escape and nothing was found in search. We are tracing their inputs and soon they will be neutralized,” he said.
The officer said the dead body of the deceased will be handed over to the family after completing medical and legal formalities.
Earlier gunfight broke out on Friday morning after a joint party of Special Operations Group of police, Army, and CRPF cordoned the area on a specific input about the presence of terrorists in the area.
Another officer said after all exit points were plugged and when security forces were moving towards a particular area, terrorists hiding there opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons.
However, terrorists managed to escape under cover of darkness. The operation was called off on evening after the entire area was sanitized,” he said.
