Many students dream about studying abroad. It’s no secret that education offers students the opportunity to make new friends, gain internship experience, explore the world, create professional connections, and immerse themselves in a new culture. However, many students falsely believe that studying abroad is too expensive for their budget and don’t know where to start on the scholarship application process in a different country. There are plenty of study abroad scholarships for international students who are interested in pursuing a course or a degree abroad. These opportunities can range from funds to cover your flight to scholarships that allow you to study abroad for free. Scholarships not only act as financial aid but are essential due to several other reasons and a great source of financial aid for such students. This article briefs about international scholarships.

US scholarships

The US is an ideal destination for Indian students to further their education. Its quality courses and programs enable students to reach their fullest potential while offering job opportunities for those that are ready to take their next step in life. US scholarships will help bring you there. Besides offsetting your tuition fees, some US scholarships cover your accommodation, stationaries and even your flight ticket to America.

ADB-Japan Scholarship Programme for Developing Countries in Asia and Pacific: The Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Programme (ADB-JSP) aims to provide an opportunity for well-qualified students living in developed countries to undertake a PG course at any participating academic institutions in several Asian countries and the US. Upon completion of your programme, scholars are going to be contributing to the economic and social development of their home countries. Programs covered by the ADB-JSP are PG courses in economics, management, health, education, agriculture, environment, natural resources management, science and technology, and other development-related fields.

The ADB-JSP awards full tuition fee coverage, a monthly subsistence and housing allowance, an allowance for books and stationaries, medical insurance, and travel expenses.

The scholarship is applied for one year where it can be further extended to your second year of study if you maintain a satisfactory level of performance as determined by your university or institute. The maximum duration is only two years for master’s and doctorate programmes.

Travel costs are not included in AKF scholarships. Funding for PhD programs is only provided for the first two years of study, after which students will need to find alternative sources of assistance. Half of the scholarship amount is taken into account as a loan, which must be reimbursed with an annual interest of 5%. Students would need to repay the loan in five years, six months after your study period has been funded by the foundation.

Harvard University

Reinforcing its commitment to opportunity for all talented students regardless of their economic resources, the University is also announcing a significant expansion of the Harvard Financial Aid Initiative (HFAI) for low- and middle-income families. This is an increase from the $65,000 annual income threshold in previous years. Nearly a quarter of Harvard College students come from families with incomes under $75,000.

Harvard continues to make investments in financial aid program to lessen the enormous pressures that low- and middle-income families face in sending their deserving students to college.

Harvard’s undergraduate financial aid program continues to benefit from the consistent and aggressive investment. Since launching HFAI in 2005, the University has awarded almost $2.9 billion in scholarship aid to undergraduates. During this period, Harvard’s annual financial aid budget has risen more than 190 percent, from $80 million to $235 million in 2022.

Beginning in the 2022-2023 academic year, all first-year students from families with incomes below $75,000 with typical assets will also receive a $2,000 start-up grant to help with move-in costs and other expenses incurred in the transition to college. The grant was launched in 2016.

Based on projections, 55 percent will receive need-based grants, allowing aided families to pay an average of $12,700 annually. In addition, 25 percent of students qualified for the HFAI.

In 2020, Harvard further expanded its financial aid program by eliminating the summer work expectation from aid awards beginning in the 2020–21 academic year and replacing it with scholarship funds. Students are not required to take out loans and are only expected to contribute $3,500 through term-time work to meet their estimated personal expenses, including books.

Harvard’s net-price calculator makes it easy for families to get a sense of the College’s affordability. For students not receiving need-based aid, the total cost of attendance (including tuition, room, board, and fees) is scheduled to increase by 3 percent to $76,763 for the 2022–2023 academic year.
