Brig Gupta flags off WCIA contingent for ‘Drive with Ability Ladakh Expedition’

Jammu, June 16: As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahautsav,
Brig Anil Gupta, Member-Administration Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) flagged off Wheelchair Cricket India Association's  (WCIA) for "Drive with Ability Ladakh Expedition" from GGM Science College Hostel Ground, here today.
The contingent has started its mission from Lucknow and via Delhi, Chandigarh, Pathankot reached Jammu and will move towards Srinagar today for further Journey to Ladakh.
Sqn Ldr Abhai Pratap Singh, former Fighter Pilot from the Indian Airforce and Founder/President of Wheelchair Cricket India Association  alongwith Ravi Chauhan, Member of BCCI's DIfferently Abled Cricket Committee.
The campaign is India's first of its awareness campaign, covering more than 4000 kilometers starting from Lucknow to Ladakh and back.
The objective of the campaign is to highlight the issues related to driving by the disabled community.
"For the abled bodied individuals, driving can be just a node of communication, but for Divyangian, driving not only gives them freedom of mobility, but also instils sense of confidence and motivation among them. WCIA through its various workshops/cricket training programmes empowered more than 1000 wheelchair users and helped them to attain freedom of mobility, thereby limiting their dependency on others," said Abhai Pratap Singh.
Speaking on the occasion, Brig Gupta said that receiving and flagging off this contingent brought an ecstatic feeling to us. The contingent is on a mission to help specially abled people to attain freedom of mobility, adding that lending a helping hand to such Associations  always gives you satisfaction.
He said that the WCIA contingent aims to participate in Yoga activities at famous Pangong Lake in Leh on International Yoga Day, June 21, 2022.
Ravi Chauhan requested JKCA to make a committee for Differently Abled Cricket Association as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already recognised it.
