Udhampur,May 22: Ranbir Singh Pathania, spokesperson J&K BJP, Sundayheld brief discussions with an NYC delegation led by Asif Ali Bhat and another delegation of ReKs led by DheerajSlaria.
In the first vein, the employee unions welcomed government's move to enhance the monthly honorarium of NYCs as well as ReKs. Nonetheless, reservations were expressed regarding treating NYCs as rendering services on 'voluntary basis'. It is pertinent to keep in mind that NYC scheme was introduced and then closed by J&K government in 2012. But it had been due to a protracted and long term struggle by NYCs and the essentialities of time and place that government took a principled decision to re-engage all the NYCs.
Now that the NYCs have been re-engaged and they are again working on the earlier pattern. Putting old wine in the new bottle and attributing their services on 'voluntary basis' does not suit the essentialities of time and place. It is in the same vein he said that ReKs are trained technocrats who have played a premier role in bolstering sports infrastructure of J&K. The authorities should keep some 'safety valve' for those people who have turned over-age and those who have spent prime of their life while serving as ReK.
Pathania called for giving a fresh and new look to the proposed move in line with parameters of law and logic; more so, in line with the ground situation in J&K.
