Baramulla town gets on street car parking

Baramulla, Aug 16: Residents of Baramulla, especially the commuters, breathed a sigh of relief after the Municipal Council Baramulla developed on-street car parking in the town.
The people have hailed the step taken by Municipal Council Baramulla and asked for more such parking lots in the town.
The on-street car parking has given a partial respite to the locals although they demand a permanent solution to the traffic mess and unplanned car parking in the town.
Executive Officer Municipal Council Baramulla, Imtiyaz ul Haq said that the parking lot has reduced the much stress on the roads in Baramulla town and has given partial respite to the commuters.
“We have identified several patches in main town Baramulla and at Khawaja Bagh to give partial respite to people of Baramulla from the growing unplanned car parking mess in the town. A stretch of land on one side of the Srinagar-Baramulla highway from Baramulla Public School to Girls Higher Secondary School Baramulla has been developed on modern lines for car parking. The response is very high and this parking slot will be made a paid parking area very soon,” Imtiyaz ul Haq said.
He said that the amount generated from the on-street parking will be utilised for the development of the town.
“The on-street car parking is a temporary measure till off-street car parking is developed. We have asked the district administration for the land near fire and emergency department, tehsil office and near R & B department quarters but we are yet to receive any orders for the same,” said EO Municipal Council Baramulla.
An official said that Baramulla district administration last year allotted Rs 40 lakh to the Municipal Council Baramulla for the construction of car-parking on modern lines at Noor-ul-Huda market Baramulla, where around four kanal land is available. He said that the authorities had identified land at least at four places, however, much to the disappointment of the people nothing materialised.
Executive officer Municipal Council Baramulla  said that a slew of other measures will be taken to make the town vibrant and attractive.
“On-street car parking near Cariappa park and Khawaja bagh market is under construction and it will ease out the problems of people to a greater extent,” he added.
A trader in Baramulla, Jameel Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that the step taken by authorities of Municipal Council is worth appreciation but the traffic mess and unplanned car parking needs a permanent solution.
