Bandipora residents protest against shortage of drinking water

Bandipora, June 8: Inhabitants of Onagam village of North Kashmir's Bandipora district on Wednesday staged a protest against Jal Shakti Department for failing to provide adequate water supply.
Miffed over the alleged erratic supply of drinking water from the last ten days, the residents hit the streets and demanded that the district administration should provide them with an adequate water supply.
The locals claimed that authorities are making no efforts to address their concerns despite repeated pleas.
One woman protester, Nasreena Begum told Rising Kashmir that they are not getting adequate water supply.
"We have been approaching the concerned Jal Shakti employees to redress our issue, but nothing has been done by them in this regard," she said.
Another local, Farooq Ahmad Ganie told Rising Kashmir demanded that there should be uninterrupted water supply so that the basic needs of people can be fulfilled. He appealed to the district administration to resolve the issue at the earliest.
Meanwhile, Executive Engineer Jal Shakti Bandipora, Javid Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that the water in the springs has dried up because of drought and it may continue till monsoon season and added that as of now they will supply water tankers to them on daily basis.
