Srinagar, July 02: The foul smell in Bagh -e- Muthara, in Nowgam bypass near British School, is giving tough times to residents as well as commuters in the area as heaps of garbage have been piled on the roadside.
According to residents, tons of waste remains dumped on the roadside every day, causing a foul smell in the area.
They said the school is also located at some distance from where the garbage is being dumped.
An official of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation told Rising Kashmir. The area falls under the Srinagar Development Authority (SDA). The officer said that SMC is still carrying clearance on these spots.
He said the locals threw the garbage on the roadside. And vehicles that are ferrying fruits are also throwing rotten fruits there.
Shakir Ahmad, a local, told Rising Kashmir that one can’t stay there for 5 minutes due to the foul smell emanating from there. He claims that students at the nearby school are in grave danger as there are apprehensions of the emergence of diseases.
One can easily find heaps of garbage on the roadside. He claims that thousands of vehicles pass through this stretch every day, with the majority of passengers complaining of a "foul odour."
The officials were informed time and again to remove the waste from this area. But they are not responding to them, Ahmad claimed.
A teacher at British Public School, talking to Rising Kashmir, said the foul smell is irking the students. She stated when students step out of the school the foul play is irksome for them.
The residents of the area have urged the authorities to carry out a sanitation drive in the locality to clear the waste from the area.
They have appealed to the administration to take action against those who are throwing garbage on the roadside.
HarisHundoo VC of Srinagar Development Authority told Rising Kashmir, that he will check whether the area falls under SDA or SMC. He said he will get the details from the concerned officials. I will look into the matter the officer added.
